Event Details

The Wesley Book Study is representative of a partnership between Ashland Theological Seminary (ATS) and the East Ohio Conference, The United Methodist Church (EOC-UMC). It is sponsored by the Racial-Ethnic Ministries Division of the EOC Connectional Ministries. The administrators of the project are Paul Chilcote, PhD, Dean of ATS and Gloria Brown, PhD, Director of Racial-Ethnic Ministries for the EOC-UMC.

United Methodists from across the North Central Jurisdiction are invited to immerse themselves as leaders and participants in serious examination of the lives and works of John and Charles Wesley. This will be accomplished via a book study with the primary resource being, Chilcote, 2011 (See reference). Dr. Chilcote is an expert on “all things” Wesley.

Among the group leaders are:

  • Dr. Martha Banks
  • Rev. Edgar Brady
  • Rev. William Brewer
  • Rev. Marilyn Coney
  • Ms. Wilma Flemings - Detroit
  • Rev. Stephanie Lee
  • Mrs. Johnnie Locker – Illinois Great Rivers
  • Rev. Benita Rollins

Note: Unless otherwise indicated, individuals listed above are physically located within the East Ohio Conference.

An orientation session was (required for leaders, optional for participants) on Sept. 18 from 7 to 9 p.m., Ashland University, 6500 Rockside Road, Independence, OH 44131-2319. Face-to-face participation in this session is encouraged; however, a recorded version of the orientation will be available for those who are unable to attend the live session.

The project will begin on October 1, 2014, and end with a retreat on the Ashland campus in April 2015. Participants may join after Oct. 1 with instructor permission. Study sessions may be held online (Angel hosted by Ashland) or face-to-face. Whether groups meet online or face-to-face, ALL are required to register online. Registration opens September 15. Those completing the book study will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as follows:

Leaders: 5 CEUs

Participants: 4 CEUs

Although this project is sponsored by Racial-Ethnic Ministries, ALL are welcome to participate.
