Crossfit Center City is thrilled to host author Melissa Joulwan, who will be visiting to sign copies of her debut cookbook, Well Fed: Paleo Recipes for People Who Love to Eat, a cookbook dedicated to providing approachable, easy-to-execute recipes for people following the paleo diet. Eliminating grains, sugars, legumes, and dairy from all meals can be intimidating and difficult, but Melissa has offered up her own hard-won experiences with the diet to bring us Well Fed. The book allows readers to learn about the benefits of a paleo diet while also showing how easy it can be to adhere to the seemingly restrictive plan. Melissa created the recipes in her kitchen, using the same basic tools and equipment found in an average home. Because she knows that cooking can be scary for some, she’s filled her recipes with extra details, helpful hints, and technique tips. Each recipe combines simple, fresh ingredients in ways you’d never expect to bring healthy, paleo-friendly dishes to the table with ease. **Feel free to bring your own copy of WELL FED to be signed; copies of the book will also be available for sale at the event.**

About Melissa
Melissa Joulwan, a self-proclaimed “chubby kid” from grade school until the day she graduated college, abandoned the days of skipping P.E. class to pursue a more fitness- oriented lifestyle. Melissa found her own holy grail with CrossFit in 2007 and box-jumped her way to the next level of personal strength. Two years and a thyroidectomy later, Melissa became interested in how diet affects hormones, body composition, mood and motivation. She ultimately made the switch to a paleo diet in 2009, which is a plan that eliminates grains, dairy, sugar and legumes to get back to the basics of only what the earth produces. After almost three years of mostly paleo eating habits, Melissa finally feels ‘normal’, though she suspects her normal is better than most peoples’. Understanding the intimidation factor that comes with a paleo diet, Melissa turned her favorite original recipes and helpful tips discovered along the way into a blog, The Clothes Make the Girl, making the diet phenomenon more approachable for readers. After gaining a large following and many requests, Melissa decided to take her love of writing and all things paleo to print with her first cookbook, Well Fed: Paleo Recipes for People Who Love to Eat.
