Join Me for a weekend getaway to Upstate NY for a weekend of relaxation and fun!
If you love wine and are interested in trying something beyond your usual reds, whites, and sparklings, then this trip is for you!
A note about travel arrangements: What better way to experience New York's diverse landscape then by train? I prefer to travel within NYS by train, because it tends to be the least aggravating (for me) in terms of security checkpoints and baggage fees/concerns. It also gives me the chance to observe New York's landscape.
That said, you are welcome to make your own travel arrangements to Rochester, NY. You can get to Rochester within six hours of driving or within an hour and a half, flying. If you can not get Friday off or leave that early, flying or driving will be your best bet. You should be able to get airfare for less than $150 roundtrip (from NYC).
Only about a dozen of New York State wineries dare to create what is called the Nectar of the Gods - ice wine. A true ice wine is a type of dessert wine produced from grapes that have been frozen while still on the vine. The grapes are left on the vine months after the regular harvest has been collected, to allow for Mother Nature to do her job and freeze the crop outdoors. The grapes are removed from the vine in the dead of winter and pressed while still frozen. The result is a smaller amount of concentrated wine, often referred to as dessert wine for its sweet, intense flavor.
The New York Ice Wine Festival provides an opportunity to taste and get to know some of the top ice wines in New York State. Although the region is best known for Riesling, cabernet franc and merlot, many in the industry have identified a real opportunity for the New York wine industry in their ice wines.
The fourth annual New York Ice Wine Festival will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012 from 12pm - 6pm at Casa Larga Vineyards. Guests will enjoy an interactive and intimate experience including:
