Expanding with monthly events, Internet Week New York is joining forces with Richard Blakeley, creator of the festival’s hugely popular Webutante Ball, to launch Websdays, a monthly networking event for the New York City internet community.
Aiming to create a fun, relaxed atmosphere that captures the spirit of Internet Week New York and encourages casual networking, the events will be open to only a limited number of guests each month. Tickets are $10 and are available at www.websdays.com.
The launch of Websdays comes on the heels of the most successful Internet Week New York yet. Held this past June, the fourth annual Internet Week New York attracted more than 20,000 people, including Senator Chuck Schumer, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Ashton Kutcher, Arianna Huffington, and Lisa Kudrow, to over 250 conferences, meetups, exhibits, and parties across the city. Tickets for the festival’s Webutante Ball sold out in less than 24 hours and the event raised over $50,000 for the Michael J. Fox Foundation with the help of matched funds from Google's Sergey Brin.
“Unlike other cities, New York City’s tech community is extremely diverse, with innovative work happening across the board – from media, startups, and the arts to fashion, finance, and government,” said David-Michel Davies, chair of Internet Week New York. “We wanted to create a year-round event that captures the festival’s spirit and becomes a place where people from across the community can meet and share ideas over a few cocktails.”
