How do nurses reconcile their personal beliefs or spirituality with those they care for? Moral distress has been noted to be an increasing problem throughout the nursing profession and oftentimes leads to gaps in practice, turnover, and unhappiness in the workplace. Learn about moral distress, how it is linked to nursing professional practices and actions required to reduce its incidence.


This is a Gannett Education CE event. Participants who attend the webinar and complete the post-test and evaluation survey will earn:

Vicki D. Lachman is president of V. L. Associates, a consulting, training, and coaching firm specializing in the changing needs of the health care industry. An expert in organizational development she has had extensive experience as a consultant to more than 300 medical centers, community hospitals, long-term care facilities, hospices, and offices of health care practitioners. She serves on a hospital ethics committee and acts as a consultant on a variety of ethical problems. Dr. Lachman is a trainer for the EPEC and ELNEC curriculums (end-of-life care). Her book, Applied Ethics in Nursing, was released November 2005 by Springer Publishing.  Dr. Lachman has earned a national reputation for her keen insight into problems impeding the effectiveness of health care organizations and as a developer of innovative strategies for addressing these problems. As the author of numerous articles and book chapters, Dr. Lachman has appeared on radio, television, and satellite conference programs where she has offered expert advice. Dr. Lachman's skills are a unique blend of first-hand practical experience and academic training, and have produced creative and cost-effective results for clients in today's demanding health care climate. In 2004, Dr. Lachman joined the Drexel University faculty as an associate professor in College of Nursing and Health Professions. Her primary responsibility is teaching ethics in the DrNP, MSN and PA departments.

Course Completion Requirements and Awarding Certificate

After listening to the webinar presentation, complete the course test online. With a score of 75% or better and completing the evaluation, you may immediately print your CE certificate of completion or save a pdf of it for your records. You may also request a copy to be sent to you by mail. If your score is less than the passing score of 75%, you may retake the test. In the event of loss, there is no charge for a replacement copy of a CE certificate.

Jurisdictional Requirements

Continuing education licensing requirements vary by jurisdiction, are not well defined, and may change. We recommend you contact your licensing board or accrediting organization for the latest continuing education requirements of your state or territory.

If it is meritorious, the Executive Vice President, Gannett Education, Global Programming, will instruct the staff to implement any necessary changes in the course. The complainant will receive a response from the Executive Vice President, Gannett Education, Global Programming, or designated staff within 5 working days.

How to Register/Attend:
  1. Complete the Webinar Pre-Registration Form above.
  2. Receive an email with a link to confirm your “seat” reservation. There are a limited number of seats for each webinar so please be sure to open the email, click the link, and reserve your seat.
  3. After reserving your seat you will receive an email from GoToWebinar with more details about the webinar event.
  4. The day prior and the hour prior to the webinar you should receive reminder emails with links to launch the webinar.
  5. You should log on the webinar at least 10-15 minutes before the event begins so you will have ample time to download the webinar client and log on.  It is highly suggested that you view the webinar on Internet Explorer 9 or another browser such as Firefox, Chrome or Safari. If viewing on an IE version 8 or below, you may have trouble connecting to the webinar.
  6. If you are unable to attend the live session, please visit Nurse.com 2-3 days after the event to view the recording. You will still be able to earn CE credit after the live event.
