EVERY 2nd Thursday of the month!

InspiredWordNYC (creator/producer of the Queens Lit Fest) Presents We Heart NYC Writers Night + Open Mic at The Parkside Lounge, one of the coolest performance spots in Manhattan's East Village.

This is a celebration of emerging and established New York City writers of all types - poets, novelists, journalists, short story writers. Shows feature carefully selected writers of note, especially those who have recently released books as well as a 12-slot open mic (6-minute time limit, for writers of all types and spoken word poets).

Signed books will be available for purchase - a great chance to show local literary love.

Doors open @ 7:45pm. Buy a guaranteed open mic slot via this page. 


Cover Charge: $6 online for non-open mic'ers, $8 online to guarantee an open mic slot, $7 at the door.

EARLY BIRD SPECIAL - Buy your ticket at least a week in advance and get in for only $5. LIMITED QUANTITY AVAILABLE.


Make sure to bring a printed out version of your ticket/tickets or be prepared to show your ticket/tickets (with confirmation number) on your phone. Also, bring a valid ID, as this is a strict 21+ venue.

Alex Segura is a novelist and comic book writer. He is the author of the Miami crime novels featuring Pete Fernandez, SILENT CITY and DOWN THE DARKEST STREET (Polis Books). He has also written a number of comic books, including the best-selling and critically acclaimed ARCHIE MEETS KISS storyline, the “Occupy Riverdale” story, and the upcoming ARCHIE MEETS RAMONES. Carrie Smith is the author of SILENT CITY, the first Detective Claire Codella mystery, and the forthcoming sequel, FORGOTTEN CITY (Crooked Lane Books, December 2016). Carrie is also the author of a literary novel Forget Harry. She is the recipient of three Hopwood Awards from the University of Michigan and a fellowship to the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown. Carrie is also senior vice president and publisher of Benchmark Education Company, a literacy publisher. She lives on the Upper West Sideof Manhattan. Nicole Callihan’s work has appeared in PANK, Forklift, Ohio, American Poetry Review, Painted Bride Quarterly and as a Poem-a-Day selection from the Academy of American Poets. Her books include SuperLoop, a collection of poems published in early 2014, and A Study in Spring, a chapbook which she co-wrote with Zoe Ryder White and which was released in November 2015. Nicole’s newest book, The Deeply Flawed Human, was released by Deadly Chaps Press this summer and her next book, Downtown, is forthcoming from Dancing Girl Press. Tim Tomlinson is a co-founder of New York Writers Workshop and co-author of its popular text, The Portable MFA in Creative Writing. He is also the author of Yolanda: An Oral History in Verse, and the newest poetry collection, Requiem for the Tree Fort I Set on Fire. His poems, stories, and essays have been published in China, the Philippines, and the U.S. in numerous venues, including Blue Lyra Review, Caribbean Vistas, Lime Hawk, and the anthology Long Island Noir (Akashic Books). He is a member of Asia Pacific Writers & Translators. He teaches in the Global Liberal Studies Program at New York University.
