We Go Way Back
NYC Theatrical Premiere, One Week Only!
"A funny, touching, thoroughly original and strikingly captured vision that stays with you long after the credits have rolled."
- Brangien Davis, THE SEATTLE TIMES
"Beautifully shot with a terrific soundtrack... WE GO WAY BACK has the feel of an early-70's American independent, willing to challenge the audience to follow it into a very personal, uncommercial direction."
- Robert Horton, EVERETT HERALD
Praised as "beautifully funny and poignant" by Seattle Weekly, WE GO WAY BACK is the rediscovered debut feature from filmmaker Lynn Shelton (HUMPDAY, TV's MAD MEN). Winner of the Best Feature and Best Cinematography awards at Slamdance, the film makes its NYC theatrical premiere with a week-long run, April 29 - May 5.
On her 23rd birthday, Kate (Amber Hubert) opens a letter that she wrote as a precocious adolescent to her imaginary grown-up self. The letter asks, "Are you happy?" Obviously not. Kate moves in a dreamlike state, passive and indifferent as Jiffy muffins burn and various men take advantage of her. Throughout, we hear 13-year-old Kate's voice echo in adult Kate's thoughts. Eventually, the young Kate character (Maggie Brown) makes an appearance, leading to a moving confrontation.
Evocatively shot by Benjamin Kasulke (BRAND UPON THE BRAIN!), the film also boasts a wonderful Northwestern indie soundtrack, with songs and music by Laura Veirs, The Decemberists, Menomena, and The Lights.
80 minutes. In English. Presented in Blu-ray. Unrated.
