Mike Arms, Keynote Speaker

Helen Woodward Animal Center President Michael Arms is back in San Antonio this year to help us fine tune our amazing marketing skills that we developed last year while he was here. He is a pioneer in the animal welfare industry and recognized worldwide as the creator of both the International Pet Adoptathon and "Iams Home 4 the Holidays."

Since Mike’s arrival in 1999, the Helen Woodward Animal Center in San Diego, California has grown dramatically. For more than 30 years, the No-Kill Center has provided humane care and animal adoption for orphaned animals, as well as animal-centered educational and therapeutic programs for people. The Center is a dynamic, evolving institution that is an agent of change for the animal welfare world.

She has worked in the non-profit field in San Diego for over 20 years, since graduating from University of San Diego. Renee graduated from USD in 1993 with a Major in Political Science and a Minor in History.

She was also a Girl Scout leader for 4 years and a Science Olympiad Coach and Assistant Coach at the middle school level.

Jessica Gercke, Panel Discussion Topic Expert (Marketing)

Jessica Gercke is the Public Relations Manager for the Helen Woodward Center. Before joining the Center, Jessica spent over 14 years as a Radio Advertising Account Executive for Lincoln Financial Media, creating and refining media/publicity campaigns for a wide variety of professional industries. She spent the next 3 years working as a Communication and Outreach Director for a major San Diego Theatre, where her responsibilities included one-on-one interactions with San Diego News media, planning and developing unique publicity events and interacting with high-level financial donors and sponsors.

Through it all, her heart and soul belonged to animals. It has been a true joy for her to put her knowledge of marketing and publicity to work for our furry friends in need of forever homes.

Talk About It!

Talk About It!, the Animal No-Kill program of the San Antonio Area Foundation, educates the community on the importance of Care. Adopt. Neuter. to help San Antonio become the largest no-kill city in the nation.

No-kill means any healthy, treatable, or adoptable pet that ends up at the city shelter will not be put down simply because there is no space for them.

Established in 2007, Talk About It! serves as the driving force to bring people together in an effort to make San Antonio a better place for companion pets.
