Event Details

We A.R.E. (Athletes Reaching Equality) Pride: Cal and Stanford edition is a week dedicated to generating awareness for LGBT inclusion in sports. The week's events were motivated by wanting to provide the universities' athletic and Bay Area communities with a space for dialogue surrounding this social issue. Ultimately, our goal is to generate awareness, bridge the gap between the older generation and our youth in progressing LGBT inclusion, as well as encourgae people to consider another way of thinking when relating LGBT issues with athletics. Bringing awareness to LGBT inclusion in sports is an important social inequality that deserves attention from the Bay Area community.

Athletes Reaching Equality

The idea for this event began with the goal of bringing Cal and Stanford communities together in hopes to generate awareness for LGBT inclusion in sports. By using the week in which two rivalry games are taking place, both schools have a chance to show that despite a long tradition of competition, sports is also a platform for equality.

Sponsors include: Br{ache the Silence; NCLR; You Can Play; Stanford LGBT Community Resources Center; Program in Feminist Gender and Sexuality Studies; The Claymen Institute for Gender Research; Stanford Office for Religious Life; Women's Community Center; Weiland Health Initiative
