Event Details

Join with local and statewide Environmental Educators to discover how the Watersheds of Los Angeles can become an essential component of your Middle or High School Classroom!

Environment-based curriculum supporting transition to Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards

With FREE curriculum from the Environmental Education Initiative (EEI) and Project WET, participants will receive lessons and materials ready for direct implementation into the classroom, supporting both the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards.

Citizen Science Opportunities at waterways throughout Los Angeles

In addition to curriculum workshops, teachers will explore different waterways within the watershed to complete scientific assessments on local   environmental health and the impacts of human influence. A Resource Fair at the end of the summer will provide teachers with the opportunity to sign up their classes for similar expeditions at sites close to their campus.

Support for Project-based and Service Learning Opportunities

Complete the learning cycle with civic engagement opportunities that teach students how to transform their learning experiences into solutions, paving the road for college and career readiness.

Each 18 hour workshop will take place over three days at different locations throughout each watershed, and teachers are asked to select the Week at the watershed nearest their school site (details on reverse). During the training, participants will have the opportunity to access and discuss various curriculum and lessons, support materials, and field trip resources for school year program participation.

*Water, lunch, and light snacks will also be provided daily.
