Why: To be active agents in protesting violence, especially during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and to raise funds for local anti-violence programs

Family Support Center (FSC), Bolton Refuge House (BRH), and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (UWEC) Women’s and LGBTQ Resource Center are excited to introduce the first annual Walk A Mile-Chippewa Valley event to raise awareness and show support for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Walk A Mile In Her Shoes is an international men’s march to stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. Walk A Mile-Chippewa Valley is further expanding this mission and event by encouraging people of all genders, ages, and walks of life to participate in a one-mile walk at the Pine Pavilion in Carson Park on October 26th, 2014 at noon in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. We aim to encourage an inclusive environment where together we find solace and empowerment in being active agents in protesting violence against women, men, and children.

Walk A Mile- Chippewa Valley will be raising funds to benefit local anti-violence programs (FSC and BRH) and celebrate the importance of community support in eradicating violence and supporting survivors of violence. All proceeds from the event will go directly to Family Support Center and Bolton Refuge House.

Walkers are encouraged to form teams with family members, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. In the tradition of Walk A Mile In Her Shoes, all participants (especially men) are welcome to wear high-heeled shoes if interested, though this is not a requirement for participation. A limited number of shoes will be provided for walkers at the event on a first-come, first-served basis.

Pre-registration is suggested for this event, though same-day registration will be available prior to the event. Pre-registration is $20 per adult and $10 for students, and $25 per adult or $15 for students on the day of the event. Youth under the age of 14 who are participating in the event with an adult are free. Participants can pre-register on our Eventbrite website through the title “Walk A Mile-Chippewa Valley.” Same-day registration for the event will begin at 11am.
