Event Details

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for this truly fun and exciting event!

Celebration Weekend 2013: Why We Love The West is Sunset's annual event where they open their seven-acre campus in Menlo Park and share cooking, gardening, travel and home improvement tips with the community.

Join Sunset editors and experts from the worlds of food, wine, garden, home and design as they share tips, tastings, demonstrations and inspirations that bring the experience to life.  Over 20,000 people are expected to attend.

Children’s Health Council provides over 200 volunteers for this event and in exchange for our help receives a generous donation from Sunset. Volunteers are needed to greet guests with a smile, diligently work in the gardens and culinary exhibits and happily pour beer & wine in the beverage gardens.  All volunteers will receive an event t-shirt and free admission to the event on the day they volunteer – so you can enjoy the celebration as well.  It’s truly a chance to not only serve and have some fun, but to be part of a community event that will truly benefit the great work being done at Children's Health Council.

Each volunteer should register individually and cannot register another person. Please choose from one of these volunteer options:

Children's Health Council

Children's Health Council (CHC) believes in a world where every child/youth can reach his or her promise and potential. Our mission is to remove barriers to learning, helping children become resilient, happy, and successful at home, at school, and in life. We specialize in helping families facing ADHD, Learning Differences, Anxiety & Depression, and Autism. Our core values are: Children and Families, Accessibility, Excellence, Collaboration, and Respect for the Individual.

CHC is the only agency across the San Francisco Bay Area (Santa Clara, San Mateo, and San Francisco counties) where families are assured of receiving expert interdisciplinary care and multicultural sensitivity from bilingual therapists, along with personalized education from caring teachers. Our approach combines the expertise of specialists in psychology, special education, child development, speech and language pathology, occupational therapy, child psychiatry, and social work, all under one roof. We are currently staffed with approximately 140 employees, including part and full time employees. CHC has ~300 volunteers annually that contribute to day-to-day operations and/or fundraising events. We also partner with local organizations, foundations, and corporations to deliver on our mission.

Children’s Health Council delivers on our mission through our five divisions. Each division shares the common goal of helping kids reach their promise and potential.

  • The Center, providing expert interdisciplinary evaluations, individualized treatment, and personalized programs to meet every child’s unique challenges and needs. Support for kids ages 2-17.

  • Sand Hill School, working with bright children, grades K-7 (expanding to grade 8), with language-based learning differences such as dyslexia and attention and social challenges.

  • Esther B. Clark School, therapeutic day school providing transformative education for children with severe emotional and behavioral issues, helping them to reengage in learning and develop the positive behaviors necessary to transition back to a district school. Serving students ages 7-16.

  • The Community Clinic, serving underserved children, youth, and families in English and Spanish, ensuring cost isn’t a barrier to getting help. Primary Community Clinic is in Palo Alto and a new satellite location recently opened on Moorpark Ave in San Jose. Clinicians also do home and school visits. Support for kids ages 0-18.

  • Parent, Teacher, and Professional Education, offering unique classes onsite and in the field, presented by CHC experts in psychology, education, and child development.

CHC’s core programs include: Glen Elliott ADHD Program, Early Support Program for Autism, Social Emotional Learning Program, Parent Coaching, Teacher and Parent Education. Throughout our 62-year history, CHC has helped nearly 1 million children, youth, and their families. These numbers are growing as a result of the agency’s newest endeavor, the More Kids Initiative. More Kids, launched in 2014, aims to remove barriers to learning regardless of language, location, learning style, or cost. The three objectives of More Kids are to: 1) Increase innovative program offerings, 2) Bring services closer to children and families in under-resourced parts of our community, and 3) Increase financial aid.
