Garfield Park holds a special historic place in D.C.’s history as one of the seventeen original federal appropriations purchased by the government in 1792. Originally identified by L’Enfant as a site for a grand cascade, the site was improved and transformed into a public park in the late nineteenth century. Despite various threats and encroachments over the years by both public and private interests, the land has remained an open public space serving the Capitol Hill area for more than two hundred years.
Complimenting the planting Casey Trees did last spring, we will be adding 19 trees to this Ward 6 park. This planting also marks the second Sustainable DC Initiative planting event of the season.
Both the Capitol South Metrorail Station and Eastern Market Metrorail Staton are a 0.5 mi. walk to the site. Street parking is limited.
Volunteers are welcomed in the morning with a light breakfast. A celebratory lunch is provided at the conclusion of the event. Casey Trees will supply drinking water throughout the event.
Are you a volunteer group manager? Do you want to register a large group of volunteers for one or more events (5 or more individuals)? Groups cannot sign up all of their registrants on this page, but we are happy to work with you to get volunteers registered at this event or other events this season. Register online now.

This project was made possible thanks to financial support from the District Department of the Environment (DDOE) with funding provided through the Sustainable DC Budget Challenge Grant. Design and technical support was provided in conjunction with Department of General Services (DGS), Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), DC Public Schools (DCPS), and the Urban Forestry Administration (UFA).
