|COURSE||Course distance is approximately six miles for the 10K and three miles for the 5K. The course traverses various surfaces to include dirt roads, fields, ponds and mud trails. Numerous obstacles are incorporated into the course. Highlights include walls, trenches and mud pits!! This course is for serious runners with the physical ability to lift their body weight repeatedly as they navigate the numerous obstacles. Care should be taken with consideration to height, weight and physical fitness level. Individuals with known physical limitations should limit themselves to spectator or modified participation.|
|RACE||Individual runners or teams consisting of four runners will start the race. The first individual runner and the first four-member team to cross the finish line together will decide the order of finish. 5K winners will be determined by placing in age groups (age categories: 13-16, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over). The race has numerous starting waves as runners are seperated so as not to bog down any one obstacle. Patience is required. As a rule 10K Teams and 10K Individual Males will go first.|
|ATTIRE||Difficulty of the course and rough-n-ready attire is an integral part of the event. While safety precautions have been taken, the nature of this event recommends that runners wear attire that reduces the possibility of mishap (i.e., long pants, boots, long sleeve shirt, gloves).|
The Bakersfield Volkslauf (“ the peoples run”) was dedicated to improving the plight of the community through involvement in civic activities. Specifically, the Volkslauf Committee successfully staged and executed the Annual Volkslauf 10K/5K race, generating revenue that enabled it to accomplish its stated mission.
The Volkslauf Committee had the mission of supporting Kern County charitable organizations.
