Voices of a People's History of the United States
Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM (PDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
This summer, we’re planning a staged reading of "Voices of the People's History" in late June. In it, speakers will read excerpts/adaptations of the readings from Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States, which brings to life the extraordinary history of ordinary people who built social movements that have shaped our country.
This event is a fundraiser for our summer Organizer in Training (OiT) program, which develops leadership and organizing skills in young people (mostly high-school and college age youth) through a 9 week long summer program. The OiT program has developed 12 leaders over its 3 year history; graduates of the program have continued to work in social justice and in grassroots organizing, and we are proud of their success. In order to establish this program with stable funding, we are creating an inaugural fundraising event around the program and the youth participants.
