Event Details

This summer, we’re planning a staged reading of "Voices of the People's History" in late June. In it, speakers will read excerpts/adaptations of the readings from Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States, which brings to life the extraordinary history of ordinary people who built social movements that have shaped our country.

This event is a fundraiser for our summer Organizer in Training (OiT) program, which develops leadership and organizing skills in young people (mostly high-school and college age youth) through a 9 week long summer program. The OiT program has developed 12 leaders over its 3 year history; graduates of the program have continued to work in social justice and in grassroots organizing, and we are proud of their success. In order to establish this program with stable funding, we are creating an inaugural fundraising event around the program and the youth participants.

Note: minors are allowed in this all-ages venue, however please contact us before purchasing tickets for minors.

As the venue has very limited seating and we expect an at-capacity event, we'd like to ensure that all attendees have a great evening. In order to cover the cost of a bar minimum and space rental, we have set an at-cost ticket price at $20 for those under the age of 18 who plan on joining us this evening. The venue is very intimate and our program will run at approximately 2 hours.

If you would like to purchase a ticket for an attendee under the age of 18, please select the "Virtual Supporter - Wish I Could Be There" ticket option for $20 and e-mail vivian@opalpdx.org with the name of the attendee so we can ensure that a seat will be available for them at the event.

We appreciate the support and look forward to seeing you on the evening of June 27th.
