Event Details

Legacies of War is very excited to announce that "Voices from Laos: Clearing Bombs, Protecting Lives," our groundbreaking national speakers tour, will be stopping in PORTLAND, OR on April 12th at the MEKONG BISTRO. Join community leaders and organizations like the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon and Mines Advisory Group to learn about the impact of unexploded ordnance (UXO) contamination left over from the Vietnam War-era bombings of Laos, and talk about how we can work together toward a future of peace.

Voices from Laos will visit 12 cities in April, beginning on April 4th at the United Nations headquarters in New York and ending on April 30th in Washington, DC, on the anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War. Our stop in Portland will underscore the role that communities all across the U.S. can play together to create a safer future for the people of Laos.

Join us on this exciting night to:

  • Listen to the compelling stories of Thoummy Silamphan, accident survivor and executive director of a Lao suvivor assistance nonprofit, and Manixia Thor, a mother and deputy leader of an all-women's demining team

  • Learn about the UXO problem in Laos and ways in which individuals and organizations are working to clear land and save lives
  • Find out how you can Act to raise awareness and resources for clearing Laos of deadly bombs
  • View a rare public display of historic illustrations drawn 40 years ago by bombing survivors
  • Enjoy traditional Lao cuisine and refreshments
  • Reflect on our shared history and renew our commitment for a bomb-free Laos
