Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is engaged in a comprehensive Vision Planning process and seeks your involvement.

So far about a thousand people have participated in conversations about how they envision the future of open space in this part of the Bay Area. At the same time, a team of scientists has been studying current conditions that present opportunities and challenges to the kind of future people envision.

The District has used all this information to identify a range of actions to include in the Vision Plan. Now the District is convening a series of public workshops where community members will help decide which of these actions are most important. The workshops will be dynamic meetings where participants will:

  • Learn about the identified actions in specific areas of the Open Space District
  • Discuss priorities with other community members
  • Rate the actions and see real time results showing what the community says is most important.

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, if you need assistance to participate in a meeting, please contact the District Clerk at (650) 691-1200.  Notification 48 hours prior to the meeting will enable the District to make reasonable arrangements to ensure accessibility to the meeting.

Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District

Formed in 1972 by voter initiative, the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District is a not-for-profit public agency in the San Francisco Bay Area committed to the following mission:

To acquire and preserve a regional greenbelt of open space land in perpetuity; protect and restore the natural environment; and provide opportunities for ecologically sensitive public enjoyment and education.

Open space lands offer a respite from everyday life, an oasis of nature and fresh air, and an opportunity to experience and learn about the diverse natural environment that contributes to our quality of life in the San Francisco Bay Area. The District works to form a continuous greenbelt of permanently preserved open space by linking its lands with other public parklands. The District also participates in cooperative efforts such as the Bay Trail, Ridge Trail, and Skyline-to-the-Sea Trail, which are regional trail systems in the Bay Area that include District lands.

The District has permanently preserved over 60,000 acres of mountainous, foothill, and bayland open space, creating 26 open space preserves.
