Ever wonder what the nutritional labels on foods really mean? Are you interested in learning how much protein, sugar, and fat are in the foods you eat? Nutritional data is detailed nutritional information that can tell you about how food affects your health and they can make it easier for you to choose healthy foods.
In Vertex Pharmaceuticals' new teaching lab, we will introduce you to the major nutrients found in foods like: proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids. We will share with you the reasons our bodies need ALL of these nutrients (in moderation), and we will compare the different foods in order to measure the amount of these nutrients in all different types of foods.
Students will conduct real experiments with Vertex scientists and science staff in a real analytical chemistry lab at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. The lab experiments will take about 2 hours to complete.
Open to students 14 - 18 years old. Registration required.
