Domestic Violence has a profound impact on business. Workplace safety is compromised when an employee is in an abusive relationship, as it's not uncommon for abusers to seek out their partner at work, endangering her, her co-workers, customers and others on the scene. Likewise, victims of domestic violence are often distracted at work, making errors, missing deadlines, and generally underperforming. Physical injuries will interfere with labor requirements, while forcing higher healthcare expenses. Indeed, victims of domestic violence are said to miss as many as 8 million work days annually. Given its impact on workplace safety and the bottom line, employers need to make domestic violence their business, yet more than 70% of businesses have no formal policy addressing domestic violence.
