Beers from Green Jack in the United Kingdom

NEW -  BALTIC TRADER   10.5% ABV

Gold | Overall Champion | Chelmsford Winter Beers

First shipment ever to the USA.

BALTIC TRADER Extra Strong Export Stout. Smooth, rich and fruity with roasted coffee & vanilla flavors. Kind of like a sticky toffee pudding in a glass.  Baltic Trader celebrates the North Sea sailing ships that traded between England's East Coast ports, the Low Countries and Scandinavia. 95 on Ratebeer: "Translucent, dark mahogany. Pours thick, brown head, which persists - very fine bubbles, nice & creamy. Light carbonation."  One remarkable thing about Tim ‘s beers is how the flavor characteristics of the malts chosen always shine through. Formats 30 liter kegs and 750 ml bottles.

NEW  - FRUIT BAT - 5.5% ABV WITH PLUMS!

Fruit Bat is an extra special bitter with a taste of plums.  How can this be? Post fermentation Tim Dunford lines the cold tanks with plums. Aroma is plummy fruits, wood, caramel, some mild earth as well as herbs. Flavor is wood, mild floral and fruity notes as well as some dark berries with just a touch of spiciness and sweet maltiness on the palate.  Pours a clear mid-brown color with a medium sized frothy & lasting off-white head that leaves a heavy lace. Another great find from the under-rated (or rather not talked about enough) Green Jack. "Green Jack ales, are just the right side of full-flavored but have a soft gentle carbonation that makes them a very classy beer." The Ormskirk Barons. Compare and contrast with Southern Tier’s Plum Noir. Pork with prunes and ginger is great with this beer. Format 30 liter key keg only.

NEW - MR. DUNFORD'S PREFERENCE - 6.0% ABV Elderflower Ale

This vintage elderflower ale, involves generous amounts of hops and buckets and buckets of fresh locally harvested elderflowers aka a taste of East Anglia in a bottle. The elder is a small but bountiful tree that usually grows on the woodland edge.  Elderflower has has been called “the medicine chest of the country people” and the roots, bark, berries, leaves and flowers have all been used in a variety of different ways, from medicines to wines, beers and jams. Delightful, delicate and delicious.  They handpicked 10 dustbins (their words!)… think bushels !!! of elderflower per batch. Format 30 liter key keg only.

RIPPA  - 8.5% - New shipment of this Supreme Champion Winter Beer CAMRA

This English Triple was Named Supreme Champion Winter Beer of the UK by CAMRA. Rippa is an amber ale redolent of peach and grape with an herbal, tropical bittersweet taste and a fruity bitter finish. Rippa is brewed with pale ale malt, caramalt, maize, wheat, and sugar.  UK Challenger hops lend a black pepper spice aroma, and Slovenian Celeia hops add bitterness. As the brewery is small, we can only bring in shipments a few times a year.  What’s more, Rippa just earned Gold in the World Beer Championships. The judges write "Hazy deep amber copper color. Aromas of honey-buttered scone, dried fruit, and toffee with a supple, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a refreshing, beautifully balanced finish with emphasis on nuts, cocoa, and grass. A great take on the style." Formats: 30 liter kegs & 750 ml bottles.

New, Nordic & Noteworthy

Our Icelandic beers have landed. Many of you already know and have ordered (and reordered) Lava - the world champion smoked imperial Stout. But… Garun and Skadi are entirely new to the US market and the quantities are very very limited. Check out more information on all of our Icelandic beers with this easy to print PDF. Garun will debut at a new Nordic resto in NYC called Budin.

NEW - Borg Brewery- GARUN - Icelandic Stout- 11.5% ABV

Led by brewer Valgeir Valgeirson, the people at Borg are a small, dedicated and intensely beer loving bunch. Garun is their 1st export offering. At 11.5%, it’s an ‘Icelandic Stout’ which makes sense since it seems obvious that a stout coming from the land of fire and ice would be, shall we say extremely stout! Intensely aromatic, full of roasted coffee notes, a very rich, almost unctuous body that finishes remarkably clean with just the right balance of bitter sweetness. It reminds us as much Tia Maria as beer. Extraordinary! The ideal winter ale. Format: 20 liter slimline kegs and 33 cl bottles (24 per case).

Olvisholt Brewery – LAVA - Smoked Imperial Stout - 9.5% ABV

Acclaim for LAVA just keeps building. The New Yorker Magazine says "a cold glass of Lava, a creamy smoked stout brewed in Iceland. If you didn’t know better, you might think you were sipping iced coffee with milk. It’s enchanting, and worthy of a toast.” We have 750 ml bottles (6 to a case) and 20 liter kegs on this shipment as well  of this the world champion smoked imperial Stout.

NEW- Olvisholt Brewery- SKADI- Icelandic Farmhouse Ale - 7% ABV

Skadi is a 7%, Icelandic farmhouse ale made with Icelandic herbs - principally Angelica which grows wild all round the brewery. In Norse mythology, Skaði is a goddess associated with bow hunting, skiing, winter, and mountains. Skadi is reddish to deep amber in color. The hops are Slovenian Celeia and East Kent Goldings. Pilsner malt, dark caramel malt, rye malt, malted wheat, brown sugar, and wild organic Icelandic angelica go into the brew. The yeast strain is French in origin. This is the US debut of this lovely beer from Olvisholt. Tap only, 20L slimline liter key kegs.

WHO IS VANBERG & DEWULF?

The Vanberg & DeWulf seal encircles twenty-five distinct beer styles from thirteen breweries in five nations. We remain dedicated to careful research and meticulous editing so that we only bring you beers we believe worth your time and money. As always, they all come from independent, family-run breweries. We were the first company to be dedicated to importing Belgian beers to the USA—starting 32 years ago. The co-founders, Wendy Littlefield and Don Feinberg were the first Americans inducted into the Belgian Brewers’ Guild.

Want to get to know Don & Wendy better?  Listen to how they built the Belgian beer category in America and continue to innovate today.
