UX in Space!
Wednesday, October 24, 2012 from 6:00 PM to 8:45 PM (PDT)
San Francisco, CA
How do you design the user experience for a world-renowned exhibition space? For an urban neighborhood or transportation system? For a comic strip? If you are curious to learn how people are using the principles of User Experience Design to solve an interesting array of on and off-screen challenges, please join us on Wednesday October 24 for an IxDA SF event!
UX in [physical, social, urban, cultural, written, interactive, storytelling] Space!
Eric Socolofsky, New Media Exhibit Developer at the Exploratorium
An architectural background and a new media foreground come together to shape Eric Socolofsky's body of work. Since receiving his Master's degree at NYU-ITP, Eric has experimented with a variety of projects, including web, game, and user interface design and programming, interactive and generative screen-based art, and interactive spatial installations. Following a fellowship in Eyebeam's Moving Image department, Eric designed and built the comic generation tool Quickcomic, developed Gamestar Mechanic with New York City-based GameLab, and taught at New York University and Pratt University. He is now a new media exhibit developer at San Francisco's Exploratorium.
Deb Aoki, Content Strategist / Storyboard Artist at eBay
Besides writing UI content, tweaking email text, and finessing error messages as Sr. Content Strategist, Deb has a secret ninja skill that she also uses at eBay: she can draw comics. With over 20+ years experience as a published cartoonist (her comic strip Bento Box is currently featured on Sundays in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser), Deb also uses her drawing skills to facilitate brainstorming, develop storyboards for user testing, and illustrate user personas and flow scenarios to drive customer-centric product development. Deb is also a semi-professional nerd who writes about manga (Japanese comics) for About.com.
Paul Supawanich, Transportation Planner\Engineer at Nelson\Nygaard
Paul is a rural Midwesterner that always yearned for the City. This characteristic, coupled with a fascination with all things in motion brought him into a career in urban planning (after recovering from a short stint in engineering). At the intersection of transportation and urban spaces, Paul currently consults with cities around the United States to help solve their transportation issues while balancing the values that make those places vibrant and great.
