This workshop will present relevant information on the
technique of sandtray therapy and how it can be
integrated into a play therapist’s repertoire. Specifically,
the participants will learn the history of sandtray therapy
and its theoretical underpinnings, as well as explore
practical matters such as the role of therapist and how to
introduce the experience to children and their parents.
Play therapy will be highlighted as a method for assessing
a child’s ability to engage in the process of sandtray
therapy. An integrative approach will highlight the
benefit of sandtray therapy within play therapy sessions.
Case examples of both play therapy and sandtray therapy
approaches will be provided. Experiential and interactive
exercises will also be a part of the learning experience.
Participants will be able to:
Develop an understanding of the
history, theoretical underpinnings,
and practical aspects of materials
needed to conduct sandtray therapy
from a Jungian perspective.
Understand the role of the therapist,
including what are benefits of using
sandtray therapy with clients and
how using this technique can
enhance the play therapy experience
of the child.
Incorporate various uses of sandtray
therapy including group sandtray,
