“Using Art to Create a Celebrity” Art Show
Friday, April 19, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM (EDT)
New York, NY
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Rogue Space will exhibit “Using Art to Create a Celebrity”, a series of oil paintings by Kip Omolade from April 19th to April 20th, 2013.
Since 2005, Kip Omolade has created over 100 paintings and drawings of a single model with the goal of using art as a star-making machine. The result is a collection that critiques our celebrity-obsessed society while exploring the power of art. The exhibition will present Omolade’s latest portraits from his “Diovadiova Project”. A special feature of the show will include 3D oil paintings. When viewed with 3D glasses, visitors will experience the illusion of depth usually found in movies.
Bravo TV's “Work of Art” winner, Abdi Farah states: "Kip Omolade is on to something truly great. His work sincerely but smartly captures our culture’s conflicted obsession with beauty and celebrity. Omolade's love of beauty and his attraction to his subjects is unabashed, represented in the luscious, almost gluttonous, way he handles paint and composes with color."
"Kip Omolade’s icon portraits of unapologetically seductive women, and rapturous celebrities contain a perfect cocktail of the vulgar and the profane. Omolade simultaneously celebrates and interrogates our insatiable appetite to both worship and dominate those who embody our society's ideal of beauty and sexual perfection."
"The seemingly effortless way that Kip Omolade composes paintings of such potent visual pleasure while also containing grounds for lasting contemplation, fills me with both hope and jealousy as a fellow painter. His love for painting and for his subjects is palpable, and is matched only by his willingness to indict his own motives and desires."
There will be an opening reception on Friday April 19th from 6-9pm. The show concludes on Saturday April 20th from 11am to 6pm. Rogue Space is in the Chelsea Fine Arts Building, 526 West 26th Street, Suite 9E, New York, NY 10001.
The nearest subway station is at 23rd street (1, C and E trains).
