USC Marshall After Work Series: A Conversation on Journalism
Tuesday, October 22, 2013 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM (EDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Please join us for a discussion on entrepreneurial journalism at our October ‘After Work Series’ event led by USC alums Meghan Stettler, Erica Berger, and Callie Schweitzer.
From the evolution to the commercialization, we go behind the scenes to discover what led up to the challenges facing television news today and what stations are doing to combat the decreasing reliance on old forms of media, including what makes Al Jazeera different. Additionally, all three women will discuss their roles as leaders in the evolving media landscape, followed by a panel discussion.
Meghan Stettler specializes in cross-platform media with nearly ten years experience in broadcast news, online and social strategy. She's currently a producer for Al Jazeera America's nightly news broadcasts. In 2010, she obtained her Masters in Arts Journalism from the University of Southern California and is continuing her studies with New York University's Global Affairs program.
Erica Berger is a writer and product & partnership director turned entrepreneur who's active in the tech, journalism, and social good spaces. She is the Founder, CEO, and Editorial Director at Mileage Media, Creative Content Producer at KLINE, as well as a consultant on Editorial Products for The Week. Erica was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 in Media in December 2012, and earned her B.A. with honors in International Relations and Business from the University of Southern California in 2009.
Callie Schweitzer is an award-winning journalist and currently the Director of Digital Innovation at TIME magazine. Her work has appeared in the New York Times, Mashable, The Huffington Post, People Magazine, The Daily Muse, L.A.'s Neon Tommy, and more, and she was named to Forbes 30 Under 30 in Media in December 2012. In 2011 she earned her B.A. in Journalism from the University of Southern California, graduating Summa Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
