"If music be the food of love, play on."
~ William Shakespeare
Music is a Universal healing language of love. Since the advent of music creation, it has been one of the important connecting forces in humanity; bringing people of different generations, races, cultures, sexes and upbringings together. The Urban Peace Festival is aimed at continuing this tradition by gathering individuals for the sake of music, as an avenue to change lives. All proceeds from the Festival will go to the PACT Urban Peace Program, to relaunch our PACTrocks lifeskills music rehabilitation program, for young offenders and at risk youth in Toronto.
PACTRocks is an introductory lifeskills and community service based project that allows at-risk youth to explore and express themselves through the musical styles of all genres in a safe, supportive, nurturing and non-judgemental environment. Over the course of a six week workshop the youth learn to play an instrument of choice, through covering songs and creating original compositions, which they perform at a graduation concert. PACTrock as well as all of the PACT lifeskills programs are designed to open doors for at-risk and under privileged youth between the ages of 14-21 who would not normally have access to such real world experiences and opportunities, in order to build self esteem and their resumes, explore their creative talents and connect positively with and give back to their communities.
5 bands, all different genres, 1 night, 500 inspired souls, and $20 to foster peace, love, and community in our city. Lets groove out, to help each other out!
