Iranian architecture and urbanism have played a key role in shaping an urban tradition now generically considered as that of the Islamic city: a tradition which also resonates in some cities not considered as parts of the Islamic civilisation.
The conference is hosted and academically chaired by the Bartlett Development Planning Unit, DPU, and is in partnership with the 1st International Conference on Urban Sustainability and Resilience at UCL.
During the 'Call for papers' period the conference organisers received the significant number of 625 abstracts. Through a mixture of formal academic presentations, workshops and poster presentation sessions, as well as a specialist exhibition, delegates will be exposed to a wide range of factors involved in forming communities and cities within the Middle East and Central Asia regions. Participants will not only hear from some of the leading thinkers and practitioners in this field, but will also be able to put questions to the experts and take part in lively debates. The event includes many networking opportunities to enable delegates to share their goals and experiences, as well as expanding their professional links. Certificate of attendance will be issued for attendees upon their request.
Academic sessions will address:
• Historic Urbanism & Identity
• Socio-Economy & Culture
• Sustainable Urban Development
• Cities & Natural Hazards
• Urban Management & Public Policy
• Urban Projects & Programmes
