On September 19, beginning at 4:30pm, the City of Covington will close Pike Street to launch UPSTART, a street party designed to inspire the entrepreneur in all of us. The purpose of the UPSTART event is to connect entrepreneurs with local organizations who provide resources to startups.
What began as a Leadership Northern Kentucky project called LiNKs (a program focused on fostering entrepreneurship in our region) has transformed into a committee of passionate Northern Kentucky professionals whose goal is to help foster and connect local resources to the entrepreneurs they serve.
The group collaborated to plan a regional event showcasing the entrepreneurial resources available to startups. “We see entrepreneurs struggle with navigating through the jungle of resources and identifying what programs are best suited for their needs. We wanted to provide a cool event that served to shed light on all the resources available. There are amazing resources available in our region, and we want to make sure everyone knows who and what they are,” says Amanda Greenwell, chair, UPSTART.
Entrepreneurs will be encouraged to punch their “passport” by visiting the booths of all the organizations attending the event (see the list below for booth participants). In exchange for visiting the booths and learning about the services each organization provides, attendees will be given an event t-shirt.
Tony Lamb, founder and CEO of Kona Ice will deliver a keynote speech on starting a successful business in our region. Local live music , beer, and food will be available to offer a fun atmosphere to mingle with other passionate entrepreneurs. Music by Kryst Kruer and Whiskey City Ramblers will entertain while local food truck Red Sesame Korean BBQ will provide food for the event. UPSTART will take place on Pike Street, which will remain closed for the event.
