Walter Himmelstein, a young man known as Putzel, works for his family's fish store and, though he dreams of bigger things, can't face the world outside his Upper West Side community. In this heartwarming comedy, Walter's aspiration to take over his uncle's smoked fish emporium is disrupted by the arrival of Sally, who becomes romantically involved with his married, about-to-retire uncle. But with Sally's help, Walter confronts his fears and tries to prove he is more than a Putzel.
