Listen up……on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Institute of Musical Art's Ray G. Clark Theater,Storyteller Michael D. McCarty, (the loudest mouth in Los Angeles), will lead an ensemble of storytellers in profiling unsung heroes from LA’s past. Please mark your calendar and plan to attend this very special event, "Unsung Heroes: Legends of Los Angeles". Some of you may have studied the history of Los Angeles in school, but trust me, this is nothing like any history lesson you've ever had. Come be enlightened, inspired and thoroughly entertained as some of LA's most versatile tellers of tales work their magic. Our featured performers are:
Yvette Brandy - A singer, songwriter and storyteller, born and raised on St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands, Yvette's dynamic performances of historical, personal and multicultural stories come alive with the melodic intonations of multiple dialects.
Michael D. McCarty - A "natural born storyteller," Michael began telling stories of Black history and culture in high school in the 1960's, before becoming an activist in the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements. He has delighted audiences worldwide with stories that are a testament to the unity and diversity of the human spirit.
Rebecca Martin - An actress and storyteller, Rebecca tells stories at schools, libraries and community events all over California and in Scotland. As an actress, her range encompasses everything from Shakespearian plays and festivals, to her regular "gig" with a local comedy-improv group.
Barbara Wong - After honing her skills as a professional storyteller in the state of Hawaii, Barbara, now a resident of Los Angeles, shares her love of story in timeless tales filled with wonder, humor and wisdom that speak to the hearts of young and old alike.
This exciting presentation will make you walk a little taller, and make you proud to call yourself an Angelino. As is our custom at the Institute of Musical Arts, a catered reception will follow the performance.
We'd love to have you share in the festivities and enjoy this wonderful afternoon with us. You are receiving this advance announcement of ticket sales, as a friend of the IMA or one of the featured storytellers. A general announcement to the public will be sent out next week. Ours is a small, intimate theater, and we do expect that this concert will sell out. Advance ticket purchase is required to secure your reservation.
