Before Rock the Bells and before Paid Dues there was Unity.

For a decade, from 1990 until 2000, the once a month, revolving venue, Unity Underground was the premier performance based hip-hop club in southern California. Founded by business partners and record industry executives Orlando Fenderson and the late Bill “Bigga B’ Operin, the formula for success was simple “We created a venue for people from all over southern California, all cultures, all ages(18+), and gender could attend to see high-quality concerts being performed by the biggest personalities in hip-hop. Many of whom that would eventually become some of the biggest names in music,” confesses Fenderson.

Known for a no tolerance policy for violence, Unity earned the reputation of being one of the safest platforms for hip-hop fans and record companies nationwide. Also earning the backing of many key players in the urban music industry such as Power 106FM Los Angeles, KMEL San Francisco, Loud Records, Priority Records, URB and The Source magazines, the legendary weekday warrior getaway produced over 300 successful concerts.

The shows were hosted monthly in rotating venues from The Hacienda Real in Downtown to The Place in Hollywood, Ca. Unity organizers enlisted Biggie, Mobb Deep, EPMD, Wu-Tang Clan, Eminem and even KRS-1 to perform for the fervent crowds of 2,500+ per show. While on A fast track to success, tragically Bigga B passed away in 2009 and in 2010 Unity DJ’s spun their last record.

Never forgotten, Unity Underground is nostalgically remembered by locals, critics, artists, and DJ’s.
