Event Details

(Friday – Sunday) January 17-19, 2014

U.S. National Commission for the United Nations Educational Scientific & Cultural Organization (UNESCO) along with The Florida branch of UNESCO, the Transatlantic Slave Trade (TST) Education Project, The Rosewood Heritage Foundation, our 501©3 non-profit and The Gullah/Geechee Community Development Corporation in Jacksonville, Florida, are collaborating to bring a "cultural exposure" and perspective to the study of American and world history. This is an enlightened tour "an interpretation framework to raise awareness, understanding, and appreciation for the history of Gullah Geechee people, their contributions to the development of the United States, and connection to the African diaspora and other international cultures." This Multicultural Corridor of four states is managed by a Federal Commission in partnership with the National Park Service and the state historic preservation offices of Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. The corridor is designed to appeal to all cultures, students from middle school to graduate students, including university and college, K-12 teachers/administrators, retirees, professionals from diverse fields, clubs, families, religious and/or community leaders.  Participants are encouraged to submit at the end of the tour an abstract that discusses an aspect of the Gullah/Geechee Heritage experience.  Your payment includes two nights at the Aloft hotel, double occupancy, hot breakfast, 1 group lunch & dinner, motor coach, ferry boat rides, tour guides, admissions and handouts. You will need funds for 1 breakfast, 2 lunches and 2 dinners.  Wear comfortable clothes, bring an African dinner outfit, a smile, sun glasses, hat, and camera.
