UMass Dartmouth Torch Relay
Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Students, faculty, alumni and residents throughout the region have come together to support the victims of the Boston marathon tragedy by announcing the 2013 Torch Relay, a 55-mile journey beginning at the UMass Dartmouth campus and ending at the marathon memorial site in Boston. Through the relay, participants will generate donations and all proceeds will be given to the One Fund.
During the Torch Relay, students will take turns passing the torch at each one of the 55 miles from the UMass Dartmouth campus to the Boylston Street marathon memorial site. All attendees are invited and encouraged to participate in the final mile of the relay through Boston to the marathon memorial site.
This will be the third Torch Relay in UMass Dartmouth history. The first was held in 1965 to rally against state legislation that would have affected what was then Southeastern Massachusetts Technological Institute. The second was held in 1985 and organized by then-sophomore and now State Senator Mark Montigny (D- New Bedford) to gain equal support from the state budget at what was then Southeastern Massachusetts University.
The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 30th. To make a donation to the One Fund please visit www.onefundboston.org
We welcome students, alumni, family and staff to register to take part in this tremendous event. There are several ways that you can help through donations, volunteering and fundraising and we encourage all to register to receive updates and more information about the Torch Relay.
