Event Details

Sumner Stone gives a first person narrative about the type design and production program at Adobe during his tenure as Director, 1984–1989. He will talk about the state of type design in America when he launched the program and the technological, aesthetic, and business considerations for Adobe’s development of the Adobe Type Library and the Adobe Originals. A discussion of technical innovations and their effect on design will include printer and screen resolution, Bézier editing, hinting, and interpolation. Mr. Stone will trace the development and impact of the Stone, Trajan, and Adobe Garamond typefaces.
