There's always that new tool you want to play with.
You bookmark it. You tweet it. You forward it to friends. You put it on your todo list and then... life happens. You get a flood of email. There's that bug report. You have to apply updates. Lundberg stops by to chat. And suddenly your day is over.
The goal of this workshop is to get you away from your desk, away from the office, and focus on one thing for an afternoon: Twilio.
Twilio is the leading telephony platform for developers to extend and expand their applications with voice and sms communications. While appointment reminders and call forwarding with voice mail like Google Voice are common starting ideas, that barely scratches the surface of what's possible.
This is a hands on workshop where a laptop and cell phone are mandatory.
- 1pm - Introductions, overview of workshop
- 1:15 - SMS 101 + Sample app
- 2:00 - Voice 101 + Sample app
- 2:30 - Voice 201 - Twilio Client + Sample app
- 3:00 - Open Q&A, problem solving, etc
- 5pm - Wrap up
Coffee and light snacks will be provided throughout.
Our focus for this workshop will be to get an overview of the basic features and functionality of the Twilio platform; send, receive, and respond SMS messages; place, receive, and respond to phone calls; and use Twilio Client to use your browser to place and receive phone calls.
Most of the sample code will be in PHP but anyone with a basic understanding of any modern programming language is welcome. A basic understanding means: knowing how to use the equivalents of if/else, echo, and using POST and GET.
This workshop is hosted by Twilio Developer Evangelist Keith Casey at the HubAustin Coworking space.
This is a hands on workshop so computer and cell phone are mandatory.
