Have you ever wanted to take part in a Turkey Trot — or any other type of road race — and wondered how best to prepare for the experience? Well here's your opportunity!
On Thursday, Sept. 5 from 6-7 p.m. at The Record's Community Media Lab (501 Broadway, Troy), USA Track and Field Adirondack is presenting a free, one-hour program entitled, "Turkey Trot Training Challenge."
The Training Challenge will prepare both novice and experienced runners for any of the six turkey trots being held in the Capital Region on Thanksgiving morning (11/28).
The 12-week program follows an enhanced version of the well-known Couch to 5K Running Plan and is designed to train participants to complete a 5K or 10K. It is comprehensive, including both injury prevention and nutritional elements.
The Sept. 5 session will not only address how to get started in a running program and remain injury free, but also provide helpful tips to those with previous running experience and a comprehensive overview of the Turkey Trot Training Challenge.
Presenters will include Run for Women Event Director George Regan; Kristen Hislop, a USAT certified triathlon coach and AFAA certified personal trainer; local injury prevention specialist Dr. Tim Maggs; and Christine Cooley, a certified family and gastroenterolgy nurse practitioner with more than 15 years' experience in health and wellness promotion.
