Join SACC New York for a Tuesday Club featuring Marcus Jernmark, executive chef and partner at restaurant Aquavit. There will be a reception before and after the presentation with hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. Marcus Jernmark’s passion for cooking began at an early age. He grew up in Gothenburg, Sweden and started his first kitchen job at the age of 14. Jernmark attended the Burgärdens Institute of Restaurant and Hotel as well as the Culinary Institute of Grythyttan, both in Sweden. After graduation, Jernmark launched an event business to promote Swedish food abroad, and later became the Executive Chef at the Swedish Consulate in New York. Jernmark joined world-class Scandinavian restaurant Aquavit as Executive Sous Chef in June 2009. Five months later, at the age of 28, Jernmark took over the role of Executive Chef and in October 2011, he became a partner of Aquavit.
Under Jernmark’s tutelage, Aquavit received a flattering two-star review from The New York Times. In March 2011 he was named one of the 30 Under 30 by Zagat, an honor given to New York’s hottest up-and-comers in the hospitality industry. Gayot named Jernmark one of the 2012 Top Five Rising Chefs, the only honoree from New York. In October 2012, Aquavit was recognized by the Michelin Guide New York City 2013 with one star.
