"(CRITICS' PICK!) Craig Johnson's tender indie comedy examines the interim passages of male lives when time is nervously frittered away and the future looms through the mist like a giant scary question mark. Its truth lies in the tiniest details: the pauses, the stricken looks, the false bravado, the pathetically redundant slang (so many "dudes"). TRUE ADOLESCENTS feels accurate enough to make you squirm with recognition."
- Stephen Holden, THE NEW YORK TIMES (July 28, 2011)

"An impressive coming-of-age story! Duplass shines like a sea-scrubbed Rainier Beer can."

"Acerbic but realistic... Duplass [brings] laid-back charm and natural wit... The guy is funny, and he can bring on the drama when need be, too. TRUE ADOLESCENTS gives him a chance to do both."
- Eric D. Snider, CINEMATICAL

Mark Duplass (HUMPDAY, THE LEAGUE) and Academy Award winner Melissa Leo (THE FIGHTER) star in the poignant coming-of-age comedy TRUE ADOLESCENTS. After charming crowds at SXSW and being praised by indieWIRE as "smart and fun, with a killer performance by Duplass," writer-director Craig Johnson's feature debut makes its New York theatrical premiere with a week-long run, July 29 to August 4.

At 34, struggling Seattle musician Sam (Mark Duplass) finds himself broke, jobless and losing touch with the person he wants to become. When his girlfriend kicks him out, he's forced to crash with his aunt Sharon (Melissa Leo) and is reluctantly enlisted to take her teen son Oliver and his friend Jake camping. Funny and honest, TRUE ADOLESCENTS follows the trio into the rugged Pacific Northwest as unforeseen revelations and transformations force them to face adulthood. Set to a hip indie soundtrack featuring Band of Horses, The Black Keys and Devendra Banhart, the film reminds us that sometimes people need to get lost to truly find themselves.

88 minutes. In English. Presented in Blu-ray. Unrated. A Flatiron Film Company release.
