Event Details

Join GreenHomeNYC Saturday, October 13th as we tour TroutHouse an Energy Star certified mixed use building designed by the Thread Collective, located in the heart of Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Here are a few of the features you will see on the tour:

  • Integrated photovoltaic array of approximately 5.5kW takes advantage of the southern exposure and supply energy for the two units, including Thread’s office.
  • A rooftop green roof and garden provides common space and native planting. The building uses Gaia Soil, allowing for a 6” deep medium.
  • A grey water retention system supplies non-potable water for irrigation purposes in the rear and rooftop garden.
  • Specific construction methods and materials, energy modeling, alternative energy sources, and the optimization of mechanical equipment. Our Energy Star HERS Index is 31, showing that the building units are 70% better than a typical apartments.

About the NYC Green Buildings Open House

The Green Buildings Open House is GreenhomeNYC’s semi-annual guided tour of green buildings all over New York City, taking place in the Spring and Fall of every year.

The event gives New Yorkers a chance to get inside Green buildings and hear about their inner workings from the owners, architects, and engineers who designed, built and operate them. Visitors will come away with new expectations of comfort, livability, energy and environmental benefits.

Since 2003, GreenHomeNYC has organized the NYC Green Buildings Open House as a part of Northeast Sustainable Energy Associaion’s (NESEA) Green Buildings Open House and the American Solar Energy Society’s (ASES) National Solar Tour.
