Tripler Fisher House 8K Hero & Remembrance Run, Walk or Roll 2013
Saturday, September 7, 2013 from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM (PDT)
This event is created to raise awareness about the mission of the Tripler Fisher House here in Hawaii. We are here to provide comfort homes to our Military Families during a medical crisis. We decided that we would also like to honor our Fallen Service Members by creaating an event that would bring back the names and faces of all Service Members who lost their lives in combat since 9/11.
This is a "no cost" event because these Fallen Service Members have already paid the price. There will be a boot with a picture of a Fallen Service Member on it that will line the 8K route. Once the event is over the boots will be reassembled on the Historic Tarmac on Ford Island and will stay on display for approximately a week. This will allow everyone an opportunity to look through the boots to find the names and pictures of loved ones. This is one display that will leave you breathless when you see in one location the sacrifice made on our behalf and the number of family and friends left behind. Bring a camera you will want to take pictures.
This event will be opened to the public. All access to Ford Island will be easily accessible from 0400-1000 on 7 Sept 2013. Since this is a military installation all non military ID card holders are subject to search per base regulations.
We highly encourage everyone to come out and support this event in any capacity you can. The run is not a timed event, we welcome spectators along the route to wave flags and cheer folks on. We will need volunteers for several locations. If you are interested in volunteering please contact us at 561-7423.
We will have the "Patriot Guard" and motorcycle riders lead off the run, motorcycle clubs are welcome to join us but all riders will have to have proper PPE ber base regulations, no exceptions.
Military units in formation will form up on the inside of the field, once the Patriot Guard leads off, handbikes, wheelchairs and Wounded Warriors next, military units will fall in followed by the rest of the participants, with strollers and other wheels at the end.
All wheelchairs, handbikes, stroller, roller skates, roller blades, wagons, and small childrens bikes are welcomes, please no adult bikes. Friendly Pets are welcome on a leash, be prepared to clean up after them.
The military unit with the most participants registered online by 1 Sept will be awarded the "Traveling Bronzed Boots" at a presentation prior the run at 0615 by the Starting line stage. Last Year's unit, 516th SIG BN will pass the boots.
All parking will be on Ford Island as directed when you come across the bridge, due to the amount of anticipated participants carpooling and busses are recommend. There will be an opening ceremony at 0630.
