BASEBALL & THE CITY OF BALTIMORE
The sport of baseball is known as "America's past-time," and is, for many Americans, a favorite way to spend a summer evening. Come out on August 27 and experience this part of American culture with the Baltimore city skyline in the background. We will be cheering on the local team, the Baltimore Orioles, so wear black and/or orange if you are too. Also, on this particular date, the ballpark is having a special promotion where all attendees will get a free Orioles t-shirt included in their admission ticket! You can sample the classic baseball food (nachos, peanuts, hotdogs, and crackerjacks), or if you are lucky, catch a "fly ball"! ISSS staff will prepare some guides to help any interested students to learn and follow the rules of the game.
We will take the MARC train from College Park to Baltimore so you will learn how to easily access the city yourself for any future visit. The Orioles ballpark is in the heart of downtown Baltimore. We recommend you return to Baltimore again when you have more time to explore its famous harbor area, aquarium, quaint and artsy neighborhoods, restaurant scene, and/or museums.
Meet in the parking lot in front of College Park post office between 5:00-5:15 PM to get your ticket (this is just across the street from College Park metro station and the MARC train platform). The MARC train bound for Baltimore will depart at 5:30 PM so don't be late! We will arrive in Baltimore at 6:41 and you will be able to enter the ballpark directly or you may explore the neighboring area for something to eat or drink. The game begins at 7:05 if you want to see the first pitch, but you can also enter a little later. Baseball games last about 3 hours. Immediately after the game, or no later than 10pm (whichever is earlier), we will meet a UMD shuttle bus outside the ballpark to go directly back to College Park. Baltimore is about 32 miles from College Park, so depending on traffic we should arrive in College Park between 10:30-11PM.
You must purchase a ticket on this site by July 25 to attend this event. Advanced purchase is required so ISSS has enough time to reserve seats and transport for the group. Your ticket price includes baseball game admission and transportation (train to Baltimore and shuttle bus directly back to campus after the game). The Ballpark is also giving free Orioles t-shirts on this day to all game attendees. Ticket does not cover your expenses for any meals or additional souvenirs.
This event may be canceled in case of low participation (in this case, students who already purchased tickets would be refunded).
**We are currently accepting only enough students to fill one bus. The rest will be placed on the waitlist and if the list is large enough to fill another bus we will take two.
Hope to see you there!
