TribU: Divorce and Money

 The beginning stages of a divorce can be overwhelming, particularly as you consider financial decisions. Chicago Tribune financial columnist Gail MarksJarvis and TribU Emcee and “Lessons for Life” columnist Jenniffer Weigel will walk you through many of the common financial mistakes people make before finalizing their divorce. This seminar will show you how to be proactive and make the right financial decisions as you being the divorce process. They will be joined by special guest speaker Sharon Count, a financial adviser who specializes in helping people as they go through a divorce and certified divorce financial analyst Peggy L Tracy.

Gail MarksJarvis is an award-winning, nationally syndicated financial columnist for the Chicago Tribune, a TV commentator and the author of the best-selling book "Saving for Retirement (Without Living Like a Pauper or Winning the Lottery)." Her columns on the financial markets, economy and personal finance strategy run in the Chicago Tribune on Wednesdays and Sundays, and they reach millions of readers in leading newspapers throughout the country. Northwestern University's journalism school has named her the "Best Financial Columnist" and she has won over a dozen other awards for her journalism. Her book is the 2013 winner of the "Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Award" and Kiplinger highlighted it as one of the "Great Money Books" for young investors. MarksJarvis is seen on WGN-TV and CLTV in Chicago. She has been a regular commentator for PBS's Nightly Business Report and National Public Radio, and has appeared on CNBC, PBS NewsHour, Fox Business, Talk of the Nation, CBS This Morning, and NBC, CBS and ABC affiliates throughout the country. She serves on the board of directors of the Society of American Business Editors and Writers, which sets ethical standards for business journalists.

Jenniffer Weigel has been a broadcast journalist in Chicago since 1995. Starting in radio (WLUP, WLS-AM, WGN-AM) and then moving to television (WGN-TV, WBBM-TV, WMAQ-TV), she won an Emmy Award for her on-camera reporting at CBS and is now a columnist and reporter for the Chicago Tribune. She has written three books: “Stay Tuned”, “I’m Spiritual, Dammit!” and “This Isn’t the Life I Ordered.” She is a frequent contributor for WGN Television and WGN radio and her “Lessons for Life” column runs every Tuesday: chicagotribune.com/lifelessons.


Sharon Count, Financial Advisor, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management

With training in finance and investing, and experience in her own extensive divorce, including trials in the Circuit and Appellate courts, Sharon Count works with individuals by educating and empowering them about the divorce process and helps to answer emotionally-charged financial questions such as: "Will I be okay after divorce?" and "How do I know what is fair?" Sharon has been in the financial services industry since 2006, and joined Merrill Lynch Wealth Management in 2012.  As a Financial Adviser, she has obtained the Series 7 & 66 Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) licenses, and Life, Health, Annuity and Long Term Care Insurance Licenses. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1984.

Peggy Tracy specializes in forensic divorce work within a general divorce financial planning practice.
