Join Casey Trees and Shawn Walker of Trees 101, LLC for a tree tour at Casey Tree Farm in Berryville, VA. Step outside the 16-acre nursery, a source of native and uncommon trees for our tree plantings, and discover the beauty of the surrounding forests nestled in the Shenandoah River valley!
On a short walk around the property participants will learn the fundamentals of tree identification. Then we will put these skills to work with a walk through the surrounding woods made up of young stands competing with invasives and older, established stands with mature hardwood specimens. We will see tulip poplar, mockernut hickory, white ash, and several oak species at their peak of growth and discuss their ecological and landscape functions as well as management challenges they pose. The event will culminate with a tree height guessing challenge with the winner taking home a special prize!
Going westbound on Rt. 267 W [Dulles Toll Road] take exit 1A on left to merge onto US-15 S/VA-7 W toward Leesburg/Warrenton. Continue onto VA-7 W/Harry Byrd Highway for 24 miles then turn left onto E Main St. After 1 mile turn left onto Jack Enders Blvd then take your 3rd left onto Springsbury Rd. Continue for 3 miles until you reach Casey Tree Farm. Continue straight up the nursery driveway to a white house which is the nursery office.
Total travel time from the District is about 1.5 hours. Parking is available on site near the nursery office behind the barn in the gravel lot. We will meet at the nursery office to begin the tree tour.
