Event Details

Outing date Saturday August 2, 2014, 10 AM - 12 PM.
Clemmons Educational State Forest, 2411 Old US 70 West, Clayton NC.

Join the Capital Group for a summertime walk in the woods and tree identification outing. We'll take a mild to moderately strenuous walk on maintained trails, mostly gravel surface with some exposed roots and elevation changes. Hike consists of 0.6 miles on the talking tree trail and 0.8 miles on the talking rock trail, ending at the parking lot where we originated. Naturally, we'll stop and listen to the talking trees, but we'll also observe and identify trees along our route.

Wear solid footwear. Insects shouldn't be bad, but there may be some present. You may want to bring your bird or tree guidebook or a bottle of water. This is not a back country hike and no special skills or equipment are required. Outing is free and open to the public, limited to the first 12 to sign up at:

From the park entrance on old US 70, take the main (gravel) forestry road all the way back, round the loop at the end of the road, park, and assemble by 10 AM at the park map near the fire tower.

All participants on Sierra Club outings must sign a standard liability waiver.
Minors must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, or the parent or guardian must complete the Minor Medical Treatment Authorization and Consent form in addition to the liability waiver.
