Please join us for Transgender Advocacy Day on May 20 - 21 in Sacramento!
Participating is an empowering experience that makes a real difference. In 2011 California passed the Gender Non-Discrimination Act and the Vital Statistics Modernization Act. Your stories helped inspire legislators to vote for the passage of those laws.
This year, we will meet with policymakers to show our support for the following bills:
1) Providing Safe, Supportive Homes for LGBT Youth (AB 1856) - to provide safety and support to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) foster youth by creating LGBT cultural competency standards that foster homes must meet.
2) Trust Act (AB 1081) - to help ensure that transgender Californians are not deported as a result of police mistreatment. This is a critical issue for transgender people of color and immigrants of color in California. A recently-released report on Interactions of Latina Transgender Women with Law Enforcement documents that approximately 69% of Latina transgender women have experienced harassment by law enforcement officials.
We need you to register by Friday, May 4th so we can schedule meetings with legislators.
Thank you to our sponsors!
