Description

This special Tree Advocates Training is open to all volunteers, citizen foresters, and tree advocates of Casey Trees.

The ability to deliver an effective briefing or presentation is essential to Tree Advocates. The training/workshop will give participants the tools they need to become more effective advocates. During this program participants will:

  1. Identify strategies for increasing confidence and reducing nervousness
  2. Discuss the six key steps necessary to create an effective briefing/presentation
  3. Describe six principles of influence
  4. Learn appropriate use of visuals with emphasis on power point
  5. Practice giving a presentation and receive feedback

Workshop will include presentation times, break-out group discussions, and larger group discussion. In addition, each participant will have the opportunity to prepare for and deliver a brief presentation and receive feedback from peers. Participants will be encouraged to videotape their presentations for self-critique.

Guest Instructor

Beverly Mease-Buxton, is the President of Mease-Buxton Associates, a Northern Virginia based consulting firm specializing in leadership training, public speaking and executive coaching.

Getting There

The Metrorail station is Brookland-CUA (Red Line) which is a 10 minute walk. The Metrobus stop is near the intersection of 12th and Irving Street NE (served by the H8) or the Brookland-CUA Metro station (served by the H2, H4, H6, G8, R4 and 80). At our office, there is ample street parking and we accommodate bicycles on-site. We are also now home to a brand new Capital Bikeshare station directly outside our office on Irving Street.

Meals

All attendees will be provided with a complimentary light dinner. Please note your dietary preferences and/or allergies when registering so we can attempt to accommodate your needs.
