Traditional Japanese Amazake

The first time you taste Amazake, you will not believe the sweet ambrosial flavor of this pudding-like substance that comes entirely from grain. Amazake is a traditional Japanese fermented sweet drink made from fermented rice. It can be enjoyed as a dessert, snack, natural sweetener, dressing or added into your smoothies.
Amazake is a nutritious addition to your diet because of the abundance of active enzymes that pre-digest proteins, fats, and complex carbohydrates into simple amino acids and fatty acids. In this cooking demonstration, Chef Rie Kashiwagi will show you how to use this traditional Japanese ingredient in our modern American kitchen by making sorbets, dressings and more.
If you enjoy fermented foods, are trying to add more probiotics to your diet or just love trying new foods - this class is for you!
