Event Details

PFPP TOur logoJoin People for Palmer Park for our second annual historic architecture tour.

The tour will begin at Unity Temple in Palmer Park (17505 2nd Avenue  Detroit, MI 48203). Parking will be available there as well.

Proceeds will benefit the restoration of Palmer Park located in Uptown Detroit.

This guided walking tour (shuttle bus available) will explore the history of Palmer Park, including the Log Cabin, Spanish Bell and Merrill Palmer Fountain, and the history and artistry of the adjacent National Historic Register apartment district.

Once the epitome of grandeur, the district includes the work of some of Detroit’s best architects. Built between 1924 and the 1950s, the apartments reflect exotic architecture in the Egyptian, Spanish, Venetian, Moorish, Tudor and Mediterranean styles, as well as Art Moderne and Georgian.

Several interiors will be showcased: an apartment in Walbri Court (1001 Covington designed by Albert Kahn and commissioned by Walter Briggs for Tiger baseball players with children), an apartment in the recently-renovated La Vogue, and the lobby of The Luxor.

The guided walking tours begin at 11 AM leaving every 15 minutes starting at Detroit Unity Temple parking lot in the apartment district. The last tour leaves Unity Temple at 3 PM. The tour takes approximately two hours, and a shuttle bus tours are also available.

TICKETS: $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Tour booklet is included in the ticket price.
