Tool Training: 3D Printer
Somerville, United States
Artisan's Asylum is the proud owner of a Stratasys uPrint SE Plus 3D printer since January. This 3D printer can print arbitrarily shaped ABS plastic parts up to 8"x8"x6" automatically on a bed of support material that dissolves away. This class will train students on how to use the 3D printer safely and effectively, running through using the 3D model compiler, printing parts, changing materials in and out of the material loading bays, running finished parts through the dissolving bath, and properly disposing of all materials after the print. Funds from the training will be used to offset the cost of purchasing the printer and installing it in the space.
Students who take the class will be allowed to use the printer unsupervised with an Artisan's Asylum membership, and will receive a significant discount on materials cost when printing pieces.
The goal of this class is to fully train and prepare students for using the uPrint SE Plus independently.
None. Artisan's Asylum membership is required to make use of the 3D printer after class.
All materials will be covered by Artisan's Asylum.
All sessions are on Saturdays, from 4PM to 6PM.
Gui Cavalcanti received a General Engineering degree with a Robotics concentration from the Olin College of Engineering. He worked as a robotics engineer and systems integrator at Boston Dynamics, working on cutting edge mechanical design and systems integration for highly dynamic legged robots like BigDog, AlphaDog, and PETMAN. He was the Systems Integrator for the LS3 project, coordinating the joint engineering and development of multiple subcontractors and engineers. Over the course of his career he has also developed the mechanical systems for a robotic tuna, several robotic snakes, an ornithopter, and several other robotic animals. In his spare time he builds ridiculous things with ridiculous people, like a flotilla of SUV-sized rubber duck boats to take on the water on the 4th of July.
