As a broder environmental education series, the Town of Westport’s Green Task Force, along with Clean Water Action Connecticut, leads a coalition of organizations shining a spotlight on a film whose timely themes are of vital importance. Seating is limited. The reception is included in the ticket price and proceeds benefit Earthplace and Clean Water.
This innovative documentary brings knowledge of daily chemical risks to the public and demonstrates the limitations of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA ). Moreover, the film examines the separate avenues of exposure and chronicles the history of industrial chemicals and their regulation in the United States. Unacceptable Levels comes at a time of growing awareness of chemicals on human and environmental health and consumers are increasingly demanding safer products.
“I made this movie because I couldn’t ignore the effects of chemicals on my family. I had to find out more,” said Brown. The director’s inspiration is indeed apparent in the work in which his children and wife appear periodically. The interplay of facts and personal history is central to the success of Unacceptable Levels as a film and an educational tool; combining the weight of expert interviewees with the universality of family.
