Tomatoes: their history, growth patterns and how to transplant them for success
Thursday, April 4, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM (PDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Come join us to learn more about the most common occupant of the home garden, America's favorite fruit, the source of natural mellowing agents all summer long, the tomato. RVA's own Sustainable Agricultural Consultant, Farmer Russell, will be giving a brief history of the tomato from it's humble origins on the west coast of South America, to Europe, and then back across the pond to your favorite summer salads, salsas, and sandwiches. The educational portion of the evening will be followed by hands on experience where you will get to choose and transplant a half dozen tomatoes for your home garden. Farmer Russell will have the same yummy varieties he grew for RVA's favorite restaurants for the last several seasons for you to choose from including Paste, Cherry, and Beefsteak (Slicers) tomatoes.
